In a move to deepen bilateral relations, Vietnam and Côte d’Ivoire have pledged to enhance their cooperation across several domains, notably in trade and investment. The initiative aims to build on their existing partnership, focusing on diversifying trade and exploring opportunities in new sectors. Vietnamese official Tô Lâm underscored the significance of the partnership, pointing out that Côte d’Ivoire emerged as Vietnam’s leading trading partner in Africa in 2025, a milestone that marks the importance of their economic ties.
As part of their strategy to broaden economic collaboration, Vietnam is advocating for expanded trade that goes beyond the traditional exchange of commodities such as cashew nuts and rice. The Southeast Asian country is keen on exploring new avenues of cooperation, particularly in sectors like agriculture, telecommunications, and oil and gas. Additionally, Vietnam is looking to boost collaboration in digital transformation and cybersecurity, which are becoming increasingly vital in the global economic landscape.
In response, Côte d’Ivoire has expressed a strong interest in attracting Vietnamese businesses to its shores, with a vision to leverage Vietnam’s expertise to foster growth across West Africa. The West African nation sees potential in areas such as infrastructure development, mineral processing, and the burgeoning electric vehicle industry, which aligns with the global shift towards sustainable technologies.
The discussions between the two nations also touched on the importance of strengthening parliamentary exchanges and educational collaborations. Both countries recognize the value of workforce development and are keen to cultivate people-to-people connections, which are essential for fostering mutual understanding and long-term partnership. These initiatives are expected to lay a robust foundation for future cooperation, benefiting both nations economically and culturally.
