In a recent meeting held in Hanoi, leaders from Vietnam and Japan have reiterated their dedication to enhancing cooperation between their respective ruling parties and legislative assemblies. The discussions featured Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). Both leaders emphasized the importance of a stronger Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and committed to fostering deeper political dialogue and more robust parliamentary exchanges. These commitments follow Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc took the opportunity to underscore Vietnam’s robust economic growth and ongoing administrative reforms during the talks. He proposed that Japan could play a significant role by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which would be instrumental in bolstering Vietnam’s institutional development. Furthermore, he advocated for expanded collaboration in various sectors, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. Such cooperation, he suggested, could be mutually beneficial and pave the way for future advancements.
During the discussions, Nguyễn also called for more interaction between the parliamentary friendship groups of the two nations and highlighted the importance of greater exchanges involving young lawmakers. His vision includes not just political and economic cooperation but also cultural and educational exchanges that would strengthen ties between the younger generations of both countries.
The Vietnamese delegation also highlighted the need for continued support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. In this regard, they proposed the simplification of visa procedures, with an ambitious long-term goal of achieving visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens. This proposal is seen as a pivotal step in facilitating easier movement and enhancing people-to-people connections between the two countries.
Hagiuda Koichi expressed Japan’s readiness to expand bilateral cooperation, affirming that the Liberal Democratic Party and Japanese parliament would actively promote exchanges and joint initiatives in cutting-edge fields such as advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. His commitment reflects a shared vision for a future where both nations can work closely together to address global challenges and harness technological advancements for mutual benefit.
