In a significant diplomatic engagement, Vietnam’s Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Phạm Gia Túc welcomed Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys to Hanoi for discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors. This meeting underscored the mutual desire to strengthen the partnership between the two nations, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, digital economy, energy, logistics, cybersecurity, and science and technology. Both leaders expressed optimism about the potential to deepen ties and leverage each other’s strengths for mutual benefit.
A key topic of discussion was Vietnam’s appeal to Lithuania to support the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), urging the remaining EU member states to move forward with the process. In addition, Vietnam sought Lithuania’s assistance in advocating for the removal of the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning on Vietnamese seafood exports, which has been a point of concern for Vietnam’s seafood industry. Lithuania, on its part, reiterated its dedication to bolstering Vietnam-EU relations, reflecting a shared interest in fostering stronger economic and political connections.
To further cement ties, Lithuania announced plans to dispatch a business delegation to Vietnam. This initiative aims to explore and identify new investment opportunities, fostering closer economic collaboration between the two countries. Such a move is anticipated to open new avenues for trade and investment, providing a platform for Lithuanian businesses to engage with the dynamic Vietnamese market.
The meeting also saw both nations agreeing to enhance their cooperation on the international stage, particularly within the United Nations framework. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of strengthening ASEAN-EU relations and underscored their commitment to supporting peace, stability, and freedom of navigation in accordance with international law. These efforts highlight a shared commitment to upholding international norms and contributing to regional and global stability.
