At a recent informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers in Bangkok, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Lê Hoài Trung emphasized Vietnam’s continued support for Myanmar through the ASEAN framework. The focus remains on the Five-Point Consensus, a strategy deemed crucial for helping Myanmar achieve lasting peace and stability. Vietnam acknowledges Myanmar’s pivotal role within ASEAN and endorses efforts aimed at fostering national reconciliation, economic revival, and enhanced governance in the country.

Lê Hoài Trung urged ASEAN to take more practical and tangible steps, advocating for consistent dialogue and direct engagement with Myanmar. Such initiatives are essential to effectively monitor developments and spur significant progress. Vietnam has expressed its willingness to collaborate closely with the 2026 ASEAN Chair and other member states to address Myanmar’s social challenges, fight transnational crime, and reinforce regional cooperation.

The ASEAN ministers collectively reiterated their dedication to facilitating a Myanmar-led resolution. This approach involves sustained dialogue and the effective execution of the Five-Point Consensus. The goal is to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the region, ensuring that Myanmar can overcome its current challenges.

In reaffirming its commitment, Vietnam recognizes the importance of ASEAN’s collective effort to support Myanmar.
