Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President, Tô Lâm, has urged Hà Nội to focus on accelerating economic growth while maintaining sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. In a meeting with city leaders, Tô Lâm expressed appreciation for the capital’s achievements in institutional reforms and infrastructure advancement. However, he highlighted ongoing issues such as slower-than-anticipated growth, the underutilization of resources, and delays in significant urban projects that need immediate attention.
To address these challenges, Tô Lâm stressed the importance of mobilizing idle resources and speeding up the completion of essential infrastructure projects. He also called for increased support for businesses, innovation, and the tourism sector, alongside improvements in public services. Key focus areas identified include alleviating traffic congestion, reducing pollution, expanding housing options, and investing in education, healthcare, and digital transformation to enhance the city’s overall governance and livability.
Hà Nội has set an ambitious target for its Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), aiming for an 11% growth rate by 2026. This goal follows the city’s impressive economic performance in the first half of the year, where it recorded an 8.22% growth rate, surpassing the national average. Such achievements demonstrate Hà Nội’s potential to drive further economic progress while addressing the existing challenges outlined by Tô Lâm.
Throughout the discussions, Tô Lâm commended Hà Nội for its ongoing efforts in advancing infrastructure and administrative reforms. Yet, he emphasized the need for a more robust approach to unlock economic potential and enhance governance. By prioritizing critical areas and fostering a supportive environment for innovation and businesses, Tô Lâm believes that Hà Nội can achieve its growth targets and improve the quality of life for its residents.
