The 16th National Assembly of Vietnam is convening for its inaugural extraordinary session in Hanoi, scheduled from August 3 to August 24. During this period, lawmakers are tasked with a comprehensive legislative agenda that includes deliberations on significant national projects and a broad spectrum of legislative proposals.
Throughout the session, a total of 33 agenda items will be addressed. This includes the passage of 15 draft laws and four draft resolutions, along with the first readings of seven additional bills. Among the key areas of focus are critical sectors such as petroleum, urban development, anti-money laundering, telecommunications, customs, investment, publishing, and national defense.
In addition to legislative matters, lawmakers will examine several major infrastructure and development initiatives. Notable projects under review include the Hanoi Ring Road No. 5, proposed adjustments to the Lào Cai–Hà Nội–Hải Phòng railway, and the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project. Further discussions will consider the establishment of Quảng Ninh and Bắc Ninh as cities, alongside special policy mechanisms aimed at enhancing renewable energy, the APEC 2027 projects, and efforts towards digital transformation.
This extraordinary session reflects the National Assembly’s focus on addressing pivotal issues that align with Vietnam’s national interests and development goals.
