As Việt Nam and Singapore aim to bolster their political trust and enhance strategic collaboration, both nations are turning their focus towards sectors poised for future growth, such as technology, innovation, and sustainable development. Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm is set to visit Singapore from May 29 to 31, a visit that underscores the strengthening of these ties. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường highlighted that the relationship between the two countries has progressed beyond traditional economic interactions, increasingly concentrating on areas that promise long-term growth and regional integration within the ASEAN framework.
The evolution of diplomatic relations between Việt Nam and Singapore reached a pivotal moment in 2025 when it was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership. This marked a significant milestone reflecting the deepening political trust and shared strategic objectives both nations hold. Singapore has consistently been a vital economic partner for Việt Nam, ranking as the country’s second-largest foreign investor. The scope of Singapore’s investment spans thousands of projects across diverse sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology.
A testament to the robust cooperation between the two nations is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is transitioning towards more sustainable and intelligent industrial models. This shift aligns with global sustainable development goals, indicating a shared commitment to environmentally responsible growth. Beyond industrial collaboration, both countries are actively pursuing joint efforts in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, and digital transformation. Initiatives are in place to bridge innovation ecosystems, technology companies, and skilled workforce networks between Việt Nam and Singapore.
Economic collaboration is expected to be a central theme during Tô Lâm’s visit, with a particular emphasis on finance, trade, supply chains, and technology advancement. Programs like “Tech Connect” are slated to fortify connections among governmental bodies, academic institutions, research centers, and private sector companies, fostering advancements in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology. The visit is poised to catalyze the development of a new wave of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects throughout Việt Nam.
In addition to economic discussions, Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, one of Asia’s foremost security forums. This opportunity is seen as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s increasing international influence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and maintaining strategic autonomy in the region.
