Vietnam and Denmark have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral ties by agreeing to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This new agreement, announced during Vietnamese President and Communist Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Denmark from October 19 to 21, 2026, aims to enhance collaboration in various sectors including trade, investment, technology, defense, security, and sustainable development. The development marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and builds upon the previous Comprehensive Partnership formed in 2013 and the Green Strategic Partnership launched in 2023.
The partnership is set to expand political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges while promoting economic cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, green technology, digital transformation, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and transport. Both countries have committed to encouraging business investments, strengthening supply chains, and improving market access through existing trade agreements. A key focus will be on climate action, with both nations pledging to deepen cooperation on energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, supporting Vietnam’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Additionally, the agreement encompasses maritime security, cybersecurity, research, vocational training, agriculture, and public health. The two countries have reaffirmed their dedication to international law, multilateral cooperation, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. They have also expressed their support for regional stability, freedom of navigation, and stronger cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Moving forward, both governments will develop action plans to implement the partnership effectively, turning their commitments into practical cooperation. This new phase in Vietnam-Denmark relations highlights a shared vision for sustainable development and mutual growth in an increasingly interconnected world.
