Vietnam’s PM, US Ambassador Discuss Enhancing Economic and Trade Ties

The Vietnamese Prime Minister, Lê Minh Hưng, engaged in discussions with Jennifer Wicks, the newly appointed US Ambassador, during a meeting held in Hanoi. This meeting was a platform for Vietnam to reiterate its dedication to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the United States as a key partner for Vietnam, underscoring the need for enhanced collaboration across various sectors, including trade, investment, technology, education, digital transformation, and security.

In a call for action, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of both nations working towards concluding a fair and balanced bilateral trade agreement, which would provide greater certainty and stability for businesses operating between the two countries. This agreement is seen as a cornerstone for promoting economic ties and facilitating smoother trade exchanges.

The dialogue between the leaders extended into areas of defense, cybersecurity, and law enforcement, showcasing a comprehensive approach to bilateral cooperation. Humanitarian efforts were also a focal point, particularly in addressing the enduring impacts of the Vietnam War. These include ongoing initiatives for dioxin decontamination, clearing unexploded ordnance, and the identification and repatriation of missing soldiers, reflecting a commitment to reconciliation and healing.

Ambassador Wicks, in response, assured Vietnam of the United States’ dedication to broadening economic connections and supporting Vietnam’s developmental objectives. Her commitment extended to reinforcing partnerships in education, innovation, and maritime security, along with addressing regional challenges. She also promised to continue collaborative humanitarian projects aimed at resolving war legacy issues and advocated for deeper people-to-people exchanges to foster mutual understanding and collaboration.
