Thai PM Acknowledges Budget Challenges for SEA Games Preparations

by admin477351

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed he was aware of the financial constraints affecting preparations for the 33rd SEA Games even before assuming office. He stated that budget issues have been longstanding and instructed officials to accelerate problem-solving efforts.

The withdrawal of Hat Yai as a host venue due to severe flooding forced organizers to quickly secure alternative facilities in Bangkok and Chon Buri, adding further pressure to an already limited budget. The Sports Authority of Thailand has also faced operational challenges, including equipment malfunctions and venue lighting problems.

Authorities noted that Thailand’s spending for the Games is significantly lower than that of previous hosts, and the relocation of venues required additional funding that could not be drawn from central reserves reserved for flood relief. Despite constraints, organizers assured that the opening ceremony will remain dignified and well-presented.
