A gastroenterologist and health content creator has simplified liver health by sharing a “shopping list” of seven powerful fruits and vegetables. These items are packed with nutrients that support the liver’s essential roles in detoxification and metabolism.
First on the list are cranberries. The expert notes that either the fruit or unsweetened juice provides polyphenols that act as prebiotics. This feeds good gut bacteria, supporting the crucial gut-liver axis, as a “healthier gut is linked to a healthier liver.”
Next, the doctor suggests watermelon paired with lime. This combination is highlighted for its ability to support nitric oxide production, thanks to citrulline in the watermelon and vitamin C in the lime. This, in turn, promotes healthy blood flow to the liver.
Pomegranates and raspberries are also on the list. Pomegranates are rich in polyphenols that research suggests can help calm inflammatory signals. Raspberries are loaded with fiber and anthocyanins, which offer metabolic benefits by helping to regulate blood sugar and fat processing.
The final items include apples with cinnamon (for insulin and lipid support), beetroot (for fat processing), and strawberries with dark chocolate (70%+). This last pair is noted for its flavanols, which improve blood vessel function and cardiometabolic health.
